Registration Open for the BELS 25th Anniversary Dinner

Dear BELS Supporting Member,

On behalf of the Executive Council, I am pleased to invite you to join us for a special dinner to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences. For this event, we return to Denver, Colorado—the city where BELS gave its first examination a quarter century ago!

Honored Speaker: Carol Fisher Saller

As part of the evening’s program, we are delighted to announce the selection of Carol Fisher Saller as our honored speaker at the dinner. Ms. Saller is author of the book and blog, The Subversive Copyeditor. She is also an editor of the Chicago Manual of Style and the editor of the Chicago Manual of Style Online’s Q&A. In addition to The Subversive Copy Editor, she has written several children’s books, the latest of which is Eddie’s War, a young-adult novel set in rural Illinois during World War II.

The evening will open with a social hour that will include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner featuring entrée selections from The Palm’s team of amazing chefs. In addition to our featured speaker, several surprises are planned to ensure a memorable Silver Anniversary for our beloved organization! Dressy casual to cocktail attire is requested for this festive event. Space is limited, so please register early.

Certainly, BELS has come a long way over the past 25 years, and our organization has an even brighter future ahead. At a recent strategic planning meeting, we identified the organization’s vision to be improved communication in the life sciences through certification that supports the role and value of editorial professionals. At the dinner, I will provide a brief update on what has been accomplished so far and the strategic priorities that have been identified and initiated in recent months.

Please join us for this momentous occasion to celebrate and socialize—in recognition of our organization’s recent milestone and in anticipation of many more successes as we work together in BELS. BELS could not exist without you!

Yours truly,

Tom Gegeny, ELS
BELS President, 2015–2016
