Category: Professional Development
This event is free and open to BELS members. Register NowDescription: Artificial intelligence is often framed as a shortcut for generating answers or productivity, but that framing misses its most useful role for professional growth. We'll explore a different approach: using AI as a questioning partner to sharpen thinking, clarify problems, and surface better judgment. Rather than focusing on automation or prompt tricks, we’ll look at simple, practical interaction patterns that help editors move from vague discomfort or Hail Mary hallucinations to clear insight and action. Along the way, we’ll examine how to extract durable, human skills from AI use without outsourcing responsibility, ethics, or craft. The goal is not adoption for its own sake, but curiosity, discernment, and upskilling that remains valuable even as tools change. Presenter:
Stephen Bublitz is a senior medical editor with more than 17 years of experience in scientific and medical publishing, including agency and freelance work. His work focuses on editorial quality, clarity, and helping complex ideas become accurate, usable, and meaningful for real audiences. Stephen serves in leadership roles within Board of Editors in the Life Sciences and is an active member of American Medical Writers Association, where he focuses on helping editors adapt thoughtfully to emerging tools without losing judgment, craft, or human agency. Outside of work, he is interested in learning systems, reflective practice, and building skills that hold up over time—both professionally and personally. |
