As the President (and sole member) of RuffDraft Communications LLC, Naomi Ruff, PhD, ELS, puts her background in science (BS, Biochemistry; PhD, Neurosciences) and language (BA, Linguistics) to work helping scientists, physicians, and others in academia and industry tell their stories in a clear and compelling way, mostly—but not entirely—in the context of journal articles and grant applications. Her projects range from writing to copyediting but are most frequently substantive editing, with many clients whose first language is something other than English. She earned her ELS in 2002 and has been on the BELS Board of Directors since 2014, currently serving as the Director for Exam Development.
